Our class rules are: Follow directions quickly Raise your hand to speak Stay on task Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself Walk in the classroom
ROUTINES
Morning Line Up: Students should arrive by 8:30 and wait outside the south side of the school, facing 70th ave. by the playground. Students will always enter and exit from the doors on the second floor on the south side. If you arrive late (after 8:35) you MUST first check in at the office and get a late slip for your child BEFORE coming to the classroom. If your child will be absent from school please call the office to report the absence. 604-574-0044.
Dismissal: Students will be dismissed at the classroom at 2:30. They will walk to the south side doors on the second level and proceed down the stairs. Please make sure your child knows where your meeting place is for pick up.
Attendance: It is very important that your child attend school regularly to obtain the maximum benefit from our program. Try to schedule long family holidays for later in the year or during regular holiday times. We learn A LOT and are doing the very important work of learning to read and write. Please ensure that your child arrives on time, has had a nutritional breakfast, and is ready to learn. Coming to school late means they are missing important learning opportunities as well as disrupting the learning of others. If your child is ill, has diarrhea, or has a temperature please do not send them to school, until 24 hours after the fever/diarrhea has ended.
Planners: Each student requires a planner. The cost is $2.00. Students will be putting any notices that go home into the plastic pocket inside the planner. They will also be writing important notes in the planner. PLEASE check your child's planner every night, and initial it so we know you have read the information. There is also a place for you to write notes to us. We will be checking the planners after lunch.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Supplies Supply lists are available on the school website. Label everything with your child's name, except for duo tangs and exercise books. Students will also need inside shoes that stay at school all year. NO LACE UP shoes if they are unable to tie shoes at this time. They must be non-marking running shoes as we use them for gym as well. No slippers, crocs, sandals, or dress shoes. Please send your child to school with a backpack large enough to hold their lunch kit, and other items that will go back and forth between home and school.
Parent Helpers There will be opportunities for you to volunteer throughout the year, accompanying us on field trips, and helping out in our classroom once our routines are established. We will notify you when we need parent help. We are unable to accommodate younger siblings when parents volunteer in the class during teaching times. There may be some specific activities that parents can volunteer for when younger children can also come along. We will let you know in advance.
Snacks and Lunches Lunch and snack times are opportunities to practice and set sound nutritional habits. Please try to make your child's snacks and lunches as healthy and nutritional as possible. Please do not send Kool Aid, gatorade, pop, candy, or chocolate bars. Your child should bring a water bottle to school everyday. Please send a reusable bottle that they can open independently and won't spill easily. (No disposable water bottles with lids.) If your child requires a spoon or fork for their lunch please send one in their lunch kit.
Birthdays Please do not send cupcakes, cake, cookies or any other food on your child's birthday. We will celebrate your child's birthday in our own way at school. Imagine how much important learning time we lose if we were to have 22 little birthday parties at school! Not to mention the sugar!!
Sports Day/Spirit Days/House Teams All students at Hazelgrove are divided into house teams (Red, Blue, Green, Yellow). Sports Day is held in June. There are fun spirit days throughout the year that students can participate in to help raise points for their House Team. (Crazy Hair Day, Crazy Hat Day, etc.) I will inform you of what team your child at the beginning of the year.
PAC The Parent Advisory Council is an extremely important part of Hazelgrove School and they play a very active role throughout the year. The school can not be managed without a strong parent support group. Please consider being involved and an active part of the PAC.
