After visiting O.W.L., we decided we would like to help support the important work they do of rescuing and caring for injured raptors. In 2016, O.W.L. cared for 646 injured raptors! The kiddos eagerly took on this service project, offering to do chores at home or collecting bottles and cans to earn a dollar or two. Our goal is to raise $30 as a class so we can sponsor an owl in care. Serenity, the Snowy owl, was chosen as the owl we would sponsor. Students have worked in pairs to create posters to display around the school, to help educate others on what we can all do to help owls in BC.

The story Owl Moon, by Jane Yolen, was the inspiration for our art project this month. Students started with white paint only, adding a bit of blue or purple slowly to create the values of their colour, from light to dark.
Learning about the differences between owls and other raptors, and how humans impact these beautiful creatures.
This week we were thinking a lot about why we have Remembrance Day and the importance of this special holiday. We made a class poppy wreath for the assembly, painted poppies, and wrote our wishes for the world. Children never cease to amaze me with their thoughtful ideas.
We continue to work with numbers up to 100 in many ways. Yesterday we counted collections of objects. Many students chose to group their objects and count by 2s, 5s, and 10s. Kiddos need to practice counting 'things', not just memorizing a counting sequence, in order to build their number sense.
